What the site covers

Home Services Calgary explains four trades in depth: painting, roofing, flooring and gutters. Each guide sets out what the job involves, what changes the price, how long the work takes, and which Calgary conditions — dry winters, chinook swings, hail, a short outdoor season — affect how it should be done. The aim is a homeowner who can read a quote line by line and know which questions to ask.

The site is deliberately narrow. A new trade is added only when there is enough material to cover it properly.

What it does not do

• It does not carry out any work itself, and no guide is written as if it were a contractor.
• It does not publish customer reviews, star ratings or contractor rankings.
• It does not hide who gets your request. If you use the quote form, the request goes to a local provider — which may be a company we operate — and we tell you who will be in touch. See the privacy policy.

How prices are handled

Prices are labelled as Calgary market estimates, stated in Canadian dollars, and shown with the month they were last updated. They are compiled from local Calgary market pricing, and they are budgeting ranges, not quotes. A guide is listed on this site and opened to search engines only once its figures are published.

Estimates describe a typical job. Your house, access, materials and timing will move the number, which is why every cost guide also explains what drives the price.

Where the rules come from

When a guide states a rule or a safety point, it links to the body that sets it — for example the City of Calgary’s Stormwater Bylaw guidance, the Government of Alberta’s prepaid contracting licence rules, Health Canada on lead-based paint, and the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety on ladder use. Each guide lists its sources at the end.
